Raymond Hargett Sr. Obituary

Raymond F. Hargett Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, peacefully at his home with his wife by his side.  Raymond was born June 15, 1941, to Arthur and Mildred Hargett, of Mineville, NY.  He was one of ten children.

He spent the last 57 years with his devoted wife Georgia, who he shared many adventures with.

Raymond found a shared passion for harness racing with his father.  He spent decades racing horses throughout New York and New England always accompanied by his loving wife.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Ray spent many summers traveling around New England to night hunts with his family and prized coonhounds.  As a young man, he took employment at the Republic Steel Mines in Mineville, NY, before moving to Glens Falls, NY where he turned his passion for horses into employment at Saratoga Harness Track.  In 1971 Raymond became a Motor Equipment Operator for the Town of Northumberland’s highway department.  He remained with the Town of Northumberland until his retirement in 2004. After retiring, he joined his wife at their home in Ticonderoga, NY.  He often noted how much he enjoyed the tranquility of the property.  Living in Ticonderoga allowed him more time to enjoy his passion for hunting (deer, rabbit, raccoon), and fishing, with Georgia, both on and off the ice. Raymond was larger than life, as was his personality.  He was truly a people person and could make friends anywhere. Special friendships he had with Ron Guilder, Percy Davis, Jimmy Allen, and Eddie Shappy were lifelong.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Candy Funk, and his granddaughter Kristen Funk.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Georgia Hargett, their children; son, Kirk Hargett, daughter Kelly Quinlan (Jeff Blouin).  Additionally, sons; Raymond Hargett Jr. (Julie), Eric Hargett Sr. (Penny), Jeffery Hargett, Sr. (Tina), Brian Hargett, and daughter Tina Carter.  Grandchildren; Eric Royer (Kaitlynn), Devinne Havens (Adam), Brittany Nash, Taylir Funk, Megan Hargett, Emily Hargett ( R.J. ), David Roberts Jr., Allison Roberts, Cameron Quinlan, Christina Tartaro, Eric Hargett Jr. (Kara), Nicole Hargett-Cook (Travis), Talia Brower (Daniel), Mackenzie Ruhle (Tyler), Jeffery Hargett Jr. (Megan), Corey Hargett, Justin Hargett, Cara Joiner, Kevin Bower Jr., and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to High Peaks Hospice for the compassionate services they provided to the family.

Friends and family may call Thursday March 28, 2024, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, NY.  A short celebration of life will be held after calling hours at the funeral home.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
