John W. Martinez (Hacksaw)
After a courageous battle with cancer Heavens Gates opened up and welcomed John home. John was born in Ticonderoga, NY to the late Joseph and Mary (Smith) Martinez. He grew up in the town of Moriah until he joined the Army, becoming a Sargent serving a total of 8 years, the majority in Bamberg Germany with time in the National Guard and Reserves. When returning home he worked at International Paper Co. for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Joanne Demarais, brother Joseph Martinez, his in-laws Darlene and Clifford (Frog) Raymond and Toni Lynn Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife Robin (Raymond) Martinez and dog Meena, Daughters Jessica (Nicholas) Young and Bobbie-Jo (Wayne) Simard; his grandchildren Shana (Jessup Calkins), Dylan (Megan),Kimani Simard, Morgan (Justin) Sherman, Payton, Rylee Young and his great grandchildren Aahanna, Justin, Khloe, Dane Sherman, Trenton, Mason McQueen, Emberly Calkins, Noah, Allaina-Jo Simard, Gunner Finley Sweeney; his sister Theresa (Robert) Bobbie and many nieces and nephews, also life long friends Chuck and Anne Arno. John was larger than life and left behind an even larger legacy that held us all together with love, strength and dignity. He will forever be missed.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 25th from 6-8 PM at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A graveside service will be held in the Spring at the South Moriah Cemetery.
