Diana Ruth (Barnett) Kahler was born to Harold B. Barnett and Maude Genevia (Putnam) Barnett October 17, 1943 in Crown Point NY.
She started working in the family ice cream shop at age 10 and continued that work ethic throughout her life. She was a majorette in high school and graduated to continue her education at secretarial school in Albany NY. She loved racing her father Harold’s and brother Ted’s cars. She worked for the State of New York then married James B. Kahler and started a family. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1974. At this time, she started a lifelong career at the Essex County Department of Social Services where she retired after 34 years of service. In addition, Diana worked at many social establishments to support her family. She continued her service after retirement by volunteering for the Crown Point Hammond Library and her beloved Methodist Church, among others. Through all, her family and friends were her priority always. She put love and passion in anything she did. She never judged and always made everyone she met feel special and welcome.
Diana is survived by her children Doreen Kahler Abrahamsen (Gary Durham), Dawn Kahler Hagemeier (Guido Hagemeier), Darlene (Dolly) Kahler Gough, James Kahler (Debra), 5 grandchildren Jessa, Noelle, Rachel, Nora and Lauren, 2 great grandchildren Leighanna and Abigail, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Joyce Bain, Ted Barnett and Jean Harrington.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March17th from 5-7 PM at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. The burial will be May 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Forest Dale Cemetery in Crown Point. A celebration of her life will follow at the Fort Crown Point Pavilion.
Donations in memory of Diana may be made to the Crown Point Hammond Library, the First Congregational Church of Crown Point, or the North Country SPCA.
